Explore Marist Through the Lens of a Communications Student

Marist students are immersed in an integrated approach to the study and practice of communication and the arts through the exploration of theories and models associated with their field of study, and by the application of what they have learned in hands-on, real-world practical experiences. Learning in a hands-on environment sets students up for career success. Take a tour of our campus, and communications facilities through the eyes of one of our students.

Combine Creativity and Collaboration for a Distinct Learning Experience

The Marist educational experience provides students with experiential learning opportunities that support a robust classroom course load, and set students up for success. Our students can chose to get involved in activities that include on-campus TV, radio, Public Relations agency, and sports reporting that give them the opportunity to do what they love.

Hands-on Leadership from the Dean of Communication and the Arts

I am so thrilled to be joining Marist at this pivotal moment in higher education. The School of Communication and the Arts, with its core values and mission, is strategically positioned to provide a model of curricular and extra-curricular excellence for the post-pandemic world. I am particularly excited to join a school that integrates academic research and professional training with community-based learning and a commitment to service.

In an evolving industry, it is essential that faculty are informed on  trends. Our faculty take their years of industry experience and pair that with a thorough theoretical foundation. This ensures our students are ahead of the curve when they take their place in the industry. View all School of Communication and the Arts faculty >

Earn College Credit While In High School With Marist Summer Pre-College

For over fifteen years, Marist has created a top-ranked summer pre-college program that gives students a sense of college life, provides a taste of a college major, and allows students to earn college credit while still in high school. At Marist's Summer Pre-College program, you'll engage in daily class sessions with leading faculty and explore exciting career opportunities in your field. High school sophomores and juniors will engage in hands-on learning experiences either in-person or virtually, while working with industry professionals and like-minded peers.

There were many ways in which Marist helped prepare me for success, but one specific example during my interview at Marvel comes to mind. I was asked how comfortable I was with a system used in post-production and something they didn't expect someone so early in their career to know a lot about. Luckily, I had been using it in my production classes at Marist since freshman year. It’s little things like that that continually pop up that make me very grateful for my Marist education.

The faculty within the Fashion Department have been nothing but extremely helpful. They make sure I’m registering for the right classes, as well as taking classes I want to be taking, and they help me look for internship and job opportunities. The faculty have also played a vital role in my growth as a person and have provided me with the tools I will need to succeed in the fashion industry post-graduation.

Thanks to Marist, I landed the internship opportunity of a lifetime with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. I worked on and presented a three-year, multistage plan based on bringing e-sports—an untapped demographic—to the stadium. It was a great experience.

I was attracted to both the Marist campus and the opportunity to dive into the liberal arts and explore a broader curriculum. Along with Fashion, I’ve been able to take classes in areas like environmental science and global studies. I’ve been very involved in the Fashion Program’s ethical fashion initiative.

As I saw the campus with its beautiful river views, it immediately felt like home. I noticed that all of the buildings were so updated, and the landscaping was immaculate. Plus, I liked the fact that it was easy to switch majors. I initially wanted to major in digital media, but after a year in that program and taking a few studio art courses, I realized that I really wanted to be in the studio, so I switched my major to studio art with a minor in graphic design.
