The New International Student Checklist will help you stay organized and guide you through the steps to become an official member of the Red Fox family. Be sure to review the deposit deadlines to secure your spot, and continue using the checklist to stay on track for a smooth, successful semester. Your enrollment deposit secures your spot at Marist and is the first step you take to becoming an official Red Fox. Once you deposit, you can submit your student ID Card photo and your housing preferences, and begin our enrollment checklist!

Now that you've made your deposit, take these next steps:

Due ASAP

You can access your Marist University email after you receive an activation notice sent to your personal email. Make sure to check your Marist email regularly, as all future communications will be sent there. Your Marist account also provides access to the myMarist student portal and other important resources.

Arrange to have your official transcripts sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admission. If you’ve earned college-level credits, have a transcript sent from the college/university to Undergraduate Admission. For AP or IB credit, request your official scores be sent to Marist's Office of the Registrar from the testing agency.

Students who require a Visa to study in the United States must complete Form I-20, which is a “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status.” Marist will provide you with your I-20. Additionally, students must pay the I-901 SEVIS fee, complete a Visa Application, and schedule a Visa appointment at their local US Consulate.

Tip: Please check wait times and application fees for Visa appointments.

Fill out your Housing Application, including:

Browse the Office of Housing and Residential Life’s frequently asked housing questions, including how roommates are selected, how to apply for a medical housing accommodation, and where to rent refrigerators and microwaves. Residence Life will send you an email notification in early August once your housing assignment is available on the StarRez Housing Portal.

Please submit all mandatory health forms and immunization records as soon as possible. Health forms are required to register for classes and move into campus housing. Students must use Marist’s Health Services Patient Portal via Medicat to submit health information. Make sure to check for Secure Messages in your Patient Portal, where Health Services staff communicate important updates. We cannot accept emailed submissions.

If you want to change your academic major from the one you chose on your Marist application, click the link below before the deadline. Your CWID is required. This will inform your first semester courses. You may still declare or change your major after you arrive on campus, in consultation with your academic advisor.

For undeclared first-year students, the FOCUS Program provides a full year of major exploration, career planning, and academic advisement to help you choose a course of study. Complete the form to register.

Marist will host a required Virtual Pre-Arrival Session for incoming international students on Monday, July 6, at 11 a.m. New York time. Please register by June 22. 

This important session will help you prepare for your arrival at Marist and understand what to expect when you get to campus. We will cover key topics including: 

  • Housing and move-in details 
  • What to pack 
  • August Orientation 
  • Your fall courses 
  • Shopping trips and getting settled 
  • The Common Read 
  • Campus life, belonging, and support resources 

Please make every effort to attend. This session is designed to answer many of the questions you may have before traveling to Marist and to help you feel more prepared for your first semester.

The Office of Student Financial Services will provide an itemized statement of charges for the semester on June 18. You can view and pay your bill using myMarist portal’s Student Financial Services tab. You must be signed into the portal.

Your Marist Student ID Card is your University identification card, residence hall access, dining meal plan and Thrifty Cash, library card, and Marist Money. You will receive your Marist Student ID Card during Opening Day when you pick up your housing keys or during Orientation check-in (for Commuters). You’ll need to submit a headshot photo.

International student move-in is scheduled for Monday, August 24, between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. No students are permitted to move to campus before August 23. Please contact International Student Services by August 10 to share your arrival plans and coordinate other important details. Also, please see information about Orientation below.

All international students are required to attend International Student Services Orientation from Monday, August 24, through Thursday, August 27.  First Year Experience and Student Activities will also host a plethora of events for all new students during Welcome Week, which is the first week of the semester.

The Office of the Registrar creates your first-semester schedule and will send you instructions on how to view your courses once your schedule is complete in early August. You will have the opportunity to change your schedule during the Add/Drop Period.

Due: Once You've Arrived

You will be paired with an academic advisor based on your chosen major and will receive an email in early August with your advisor's information. Your advisor is an important resource to help you with courses as well as support you in achieving your academic goals. Your advisor can assist you in understanding the Core Curriculum and major requirements and the DegreeWorks program, which gives you 24/7 access to your degree progress. When you start the semester, be sure to reach out and begin building a relationship with your advisor!

Opening Day will be here before you know it, and being prepared will help you feel Red Fox ready. Below, you’ll find guidance on what to pack, items that are not permitted on campus, and helpful tips to prepare for your arrival. Room assignments, roommate information, and your move-in date will be emailed to you in early August—stay tuned.

Due Before Your Arrival

Each year, new students are required to read a text called the Common Read that promotes interdisciplinary dialogues engaging with topics in diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and social justice. Learn more. The Common Read is Nora Krug’s Diaries of War: Two Visual Accounts from Ukraine and Russia (2023). New students with fewer than 24 transfer credits are required to do the Common Read and take the First Year Seminar. However, all new students are welcome to participate in Common Read activities
