Scholarships and Awards

Students in the Department of World Languages and Cultures are eligible to  receive the following endowed scholarships which support study on campus or abroad. To apply for these please visit the Student Financial Services in Donnelly Hall 200. 

Dr. Raymond R. Weiss Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Raymond R. Weiss '49 Memorial Scholarship was established to honor a former member of the Modern Languages faculty. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student of Puerto Rican origin or to a Modern Languages major. Selection is based on the recommendation of the Chair of Modern Languages and the Director of Student Financial Services. This scholarship is not renewable. 

Along with this scholarship in memory of Weiss' dedicated to the College, Marist also offers the Weiss Language Center, multimedia tech room that supports coursework, self instruction, and research in Western and non-Western modern languages and cultures.

Madame Francoise B. Gregg Scholarship

Named in honor of a longtime member of the Modern Languages faculty, the Madame Francoise B. Gregg Scholarship is awarded annually to a student majoring in French and studying abroad in France. Selection is based upon the recommendation of the Chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures and Office of Student Financial Services. Financial need is a criterion. The scholarship is not renewable.

Tina and Alphonse Gioielli Scholarship

Established in honor of a longtime faculty member and her husband who joined her in teaching Italian language and culture at Marist, the Tina and Alphonse Gioielli Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior French, Spanish or Italian major studying abroad. First preference will be given to a student studying language and culture in Italy. Selection is based upon the recommendation of the Chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures and Office of Student Financial Services. Financial need is a criterion. The scholarship is not renewable.
